Unplug the day: Stepping Away from the Screen

Do you ever feel like you are so plugged into technology that you miss life?

You wake up and instead of being happy you’re alive and blessed with a gorgeous day, you’re thumbing through your social feeds to see if you missed anything while you were sleeping. Before you’ve even sat down for breakfast you’ve already started catching up with your emails and filling up your day. Never pausing to just be in the moment, to feel what our bodies and minds are telling us. It’s hard to be creative or have an original thought if we are so inundated with what the world is telling us that we can’t even really, truly have a moment to ourselves. My goal, to unplug the day and step away from the screen more.

This is going to be a hard thing for me, I’m a designer by day, so I truly am in front of some type of screen all day long. Then, when I get home it’s time to catch up with my family and friends online, write a post on my blog or just explore the internet, and again, in front of a screen.

So much of our lives are directly touched by technology.

Don’t get me wrong, it is a huge convenience and I love it most of the time, but we must remember that there are times when technology is simply not needed. Times where it takes more away from our lives than it adds to it. Technology is not meant to replace human and life interactions. It is meant to give us more time so that we can enjoy our lives.

When you are out with your friends, take a quick pic or two of you and your friends together, but then put your phone away and enjoy that moment with your friends. Really listen to what they are saying, how they are feeling. They will appreciate it and so will you. Step away from your screen, and unplug the day.

Unplug the Day will be a new series on my page.

It’s one that I am really looking forward to. I will discuss new places I explore, hikes I go on, the new foods I try and the people I meet along the way; when I get out from behind my computer screen and enjoy the world around me. Now a disclaimer, I will more than likely snap a picture or two for the blog post but after that it will be put away and I will be a part of the moment. I am using this as a way to change how I feel about my everyday life. To start participating in life, not just letting it happen around me.

Changes are on their way.

For the last couple months, I’ve been working more on the behind the scenes of my blog. I’m deciding what I want it to become. One of my goals this year is to find a focus for my writing. I know….. what?? Me???  A major part of my plan is to play around with new weekly and monthly themes for my posts, so please keep checking back. I will be back to my normal posting schedule next week!

Remember, unplug the day and step away from the screen! #UnplugTheDay

  1. One of the best reasons for unplugging is so I can look into those beautiful green eyes of yours and see what a wonderful woman you are. I love you daughter.
